Who is a SAP?

The substance abuse professional (SAP) is an ICRC internally certified advanced alcohol and drug counselor trained to evaluate employees who have violated DOT drug regulations. The professional should have cleared the Department of Transportation (DOT) exam with specific credentials and qualifications to meet all the DOT requirements.

How the SAP Helps?

With a proper understanding of DOT CFR 49, Part 40, the SAP utilizes adequate knowledge in diagnosing and treating alcohol and drugs. Based on the clinical assessment, the SAP can recommend employee education, treatment, care, and follow-up testing to the employer.

Warning

Not all substance abuse counselors are qualified DOT SAPs. Only a qualified DOT SAP can determine an employee’s eligibility to return to DOT safety-sensitive duty. The DOT SAP Provider Network includes qualified DOT SAPs ONLY! Our quality assurance protocols ensure that each SAP’s credentials are reviewed before they are assigned a DOT case and that each case is handled according to DOT regulatory compliance.
